Orthopaedic Surgeon • Sports Medicine Specialist • Regenerative Medicine and Orthobiologics • Expert Online Consultations
Dr. Bo Nasmyth Loy is a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon with advanced fellowship training in sports medicine and arthroscopy, offering orthopaedic telehealth and online expert consultations through a modern, patient-centered platform. He brings together high-level surgical judgment, regenerative and non-operative expertise, and extensive experience in remote orthopaedic care to help patients make confident, informed decisions about their treatment.
Dr. Loy grew up on a ranch in Ojai, California, where an early appreciation for biomechanics, movement, and the outdoors shaped his path into medicine. He completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Southern California, majoring in Biomedical Engineering with a minor in Philosophy, graduating magna cum laude. He earned his medical degree at USC with highest distinction before completing his orthopaedic surgery residency at Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Michigan—a Level I trauma center known for complex fracture care and advanced arthroscopic surgery.
He completed his sports medicine and arthroscopy fellowship at the Taos Orthopaedic Institute in Taos, New Mexico, where he specialized in knee and shoulder arthroscopy and began his work as a team physician for the U.S. Ski and Snowboard teams. Throughout his career, Dr. Loy has provided sideline and event coverage for high school, collegiate, and professional athletes, gaining firsthand experience in acute injury evaluation, return-to-play decision-making, and performance-focused care.
Having spent a significant portion of his career living and practicing in mountain environments, Dr. Loy developed a particular interest in rehabilitation strategies that leverage altitude exposure, endurance conditioning, and sport-specific recovery to help patients return to high-level function more efficiently.
In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Loy has held multiple physician-leadership roles, including Chief of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, member of the Medical Executive Committee, Finance Committee, and CEO Search Committee. He is also the President and CEO of RCTMD Inc., a physician group professional corporation, giving him a broad perspective on both the clinical and operational sides of modern healthcare.
Dr. Loy has extensive experience in orthopaedic telehealth and online expert consultations, helping patients interpret imaging, clarify diagnoses, and understand treatment options without unnecessary delay. He is formally trained through Apex Biologix and has significant experience with advanced injection-based therapies, including corticosteroids, hyaluronic acid, platelet-rich plasma (PRP), micro-fragmented adipose tissue (MFAT), and bone marrow aspirate procedures.
While Dr. Loy is a highly skilled surgeon who understands when operative intervention is necessary, he is equally passionate about helping patients pursue effective non-operative strategies when appropriate—particularly for patients focused on restoring function and returning to the activities that matter most to them without surgery when possible. His approach emphasizes education, shared decision-making, and aligning treatment plans with each patient’s goals.
Dr. Loy has been recognized by the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons as a Member of the Month for his contributions to orthopaedics, particularly in sports medicine and patient-focused care.
A lifelong athlete, Dr. Loy is an avid skier, hiker, climber, mountain biker, dirt bike rider, surfer, and pickleball player. He brings this personal understanding of performance, injury, and recovery into every consultation.
Long before formal telehealth platforms were popularized, Dr. Loy routinely received calls from friends—and friends of friends—seeking guidance for orthopaedic injuries. He has always taken those calls, helping direct care simply because it felt like the right thing to do. That experience shaped his belief that expert orthopaedic insight should be accessible, timely, and not limited by geography or system delays. His work with XPRT2ND reflects that philosophy—expanding access to trusted expert consultations in a thoughtful, efficient, and patient-centered way.
Dr. Loy lives in a mountain town in California with his wife Tami, a pediatric nurse practitioner, and their three children, where his lifestyle and clinical practice continue to be shaped by the demands of altitude, endurance sports, and year-round outdoor performance.
