Dr. Joseph A. Rosenbaum is the founder of Precision Hand and Wrist and a board-certified, fellowship-trained orthopedic hand surgeon specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of conditions affecting the hand, wrist, forearm, and elbow. His approach combines advanced surgical expertise with a strong commitment to conservative care, helping patients explore non-surgical solutions whenever appropriate before considering an operation.
Dr. Rosenbaum completed his orthopedic surgery residency at The Ohio State University, where he graduated with one of the nation's highest volumes of hand, wrist, and forearm surgical cases. He then pursued advanced fellowship training through the prestigious Mary S. Stern Hand Surgery Fellowship in Cincinnati, gaining extensive experience in complex upper extremity care, including fractures and trauma, arthritis, tendon and ligament injuries, nerve disorders, wrist arthroscopy, microsurgery, and minimally invasive surgical techniques.
He is also trained in WALANT (Wide Awake Local Anesthesia No Tourniquet) surgery, an innovative technique that allows many hand procedures to be performed comfortably under local anesthesia while reducing recovery time and eliminating the need for general anesthesia in appropriate cases.
A former professional baseball player, Dr. Rosenbaum has a particular interest in sports-related injuries of the hand and elbow. Throughout his career, he has cared for athletes at every level, from recreational competitors to NCAA athletes, professional players, Olympians, and athletes in organizations including the NFL and NHL. His expertise in minimally invasive fracture fixation has helped many athletes safely return to competition sooner while preserving function and performance.
Beyond patient care, Dr. Rosenbaum has made significant academic contributions to the field of hand surgery. During his training, he authored multiple textbook chapters and peer-reviewed journal publications, including research focused on treating hand injuries in athletes. He also developed numerous educational surgical videos for national orthopedic meetings and received the 2019 American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) Orthopaedic Video Theater Top Award for excellence in surgical education.
Dr. Rosenbaum believes that successful outcomes begin with thoughtful clinical decision-making. He takes the time to educate patients about their diagnosis, discuss every appropriate treatment option, and develop individualized care plans that align with each person's goals and lifestyle. Whether treatment involves rehabilitation, minimally invasive techniques, or surgery, his focus remains on restoring function, relieving pain, and helping patients return to the activities they enjoy as quickly and safely as possible.
