
Dr. T. David Luo is a board-eligible orthopedic surgeon with advanced fellowship training in adult hip and knee reconstruction. He specializes in primary and revision joint replacement, including total hip replacement, total knee replacement, partial knee replacement, robotic-assisted joint replacement, and computer-navigated surgical techniques. His goal is to help patients overcome the pain and limitations of arthritis and joint disease so they can return to an active, independent lifestyle.
Dr. Luo believes that exceptional orthopedic care begins with listening to patients and creating treatment plans tailored to their individual goals. He emphasizes evidence-based medicine, compassionate communication, and the use of modern technology to improve surgical precision, recovery, and long-term outcomes. Whether patients require conservative treatment or complex reconstruction, his focus remains on restoring mobility and enhancing quality of life.
A Fort Wayne native, Dr. Luo attended Northrop High School before earning a bachelor's degree from Purdue University and his medical degree from the Indiana University School of Medicine. He also completed research training at the internationally recognized Mayo Clinic, where he contributed to orthopedic research before beginning residency.
He completed the Physician Scientist Training Program in Orthopaedic Surgery at Wake Forest School of Medicine, where he simultaneously earned a Ph.D. in Molecular Medicine and Translational Science. To further refine his expertise, Dr. Luo completed an Adult Hip and Knee Reconstruction Fellowship at London Health Sciences Centre, University of Western Ontario, followed by a prestigious European fellowship through the M.E. Müller Foundation of North America. During this fellowship, he trained at the renowned ENDO-Klinik in Hamburg, Germany, focusing on the management of complex joint infections, and later expanded his expertise in robotic-assisted joint replacement techniques through advanced training in London, England.
In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Luo has built an accomplished academic career. He has participated in orthopedic research at Purdue University, Indiana University School of Medicine, and the Mayo Clinic, with scholarly work spanning joint replacement, revision surgery, sports medicine, infection prevention, implant technology, surgical navigation, patient outcomes, pain management, and robotic-assisted arthroplasty. His academic contributions include more than 100 peer-reviewed publications and book chapters, over 140 scientific abstracts, and 30+ presentations at regional and national conferences.
Throughout his training and career, Dr. Luo has received numerous honors recognizing his excellence in research, teaching, and leadership. These include awards from the Wake Forest Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, the Orthopaedic Research and Education Foundation (OREF), the Orthopaedic Research Society (ORS), the North Carolina Orthopaedic Association, the Mid-America Orthopaedic Association, and the Minnesota Orthopaedic Society, among many others.
Dr. Luo remains actively involved in the orthopedic community through memberships in several leading professional organizations, including the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons (AAHKS), the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS), the American Orthopaedic Association (AOA), and the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgeons (ABOS).
Outside the clinic, Dr. Luo enjoys spending time with his wife and children. Fluent in Mandarin Chinese and Shanghainese, he has a strong interest in international medicine, travel, cooking, and community service.
